Creature #1: Draco

Draco

Draco is the version of the dragon found in Greaco-Roman myths and traditions. Descriptions of the creature found in early classical writings suggest a kind of winged serpent rather than a more traditional shape of dragon. However, by the 12th century, when the dragon had developed into a familiar heraldic device, it had become modified. Bestiaries of the period described the Draco as a great serpent with a crest on it's head and a very small mouth. It also had the ability to dazzle its victims with a bright light which shone everywhere from the length of its body. A favorite trick of the Draco was to lie in wait for unsuspecting travelers, suspended from the branches or wound around the trunk of a great tree.
